A Bit Cliché

From Alive Again · Track 12

Have my melodies become cliché?
Like the tired tropes of old Broadway?
The classic choruses of a Golden age
When Rodgers and Berlin, Hammerstein and Gershwin swept upon the stage.

Should I strive to find a novel line?
One the world must recognize as mine?
Or might there still be tribute left to pay?
With a scratchin’ little ditty that is catching if a bit cliche.

With a scratchin’ little ditty that is catching if a bit
Of a throwback to the rat pack and admittedly in fact
Extraordinarily ordinary and perhaps a bit cliché.
