Light of Day

From Poetry $1 · Track 8

If you lay down and close your eyes
And you let the day seep out and take in the night
It may come as a surprise
But she'll be waiting there within your mind.

Now I'm awake, but the earth, she looks tired.
Raindrops in my hair are the tears she's been crying.
Run, run away, seek shelter from the sky.
But the clouds up above know that I'll find her tonight.

Every time she turns away
There's a moonlit circle by the edge of her face.
I will hold her close, and wish her stay.
But I'm left alone, by the light of day.

I heard something about you.
Don't quote me now because I don't know if it's true.
They say you can hold time still in your palm.
Like a silent baby asleep in your arms.

Now I never believed in magic, but that's before I met you.
When I'm asleep or awake I see your face in everything I do.
Our story's are like a fairytale but the moral's unclear.
As I wake up to the sound of my own tears.

Every time you turn away
There's a moonlit circle by the edge of your face.
I will hold you close, but you slip away.
And I'm left alone, by the light of day.

The story is just too real now and the feelings won't subside.
I worry and I fear now that I'm running out of time.
I hold her closer to me but I'm forgetting how to fly.
And the story has no ending when I open up my eyes.

Maybe now it's all been said and done.
Dreams can't last forever even if I'm the only one
Who held her hand through our eternal dance
I miss her even more because we never had the chance.

The more I let go, the more I keep holding on
To the dream of this idea or the feeling that I long
If I could let my logic go then I could swear
That she was really there.

Every time you turn away
There's a moonlit circle by the edge of your face
I will hold you close, and wish you stay,
But I'm left alone by the light of day.
I will hold you close, and wish you stay,
But I'm left alone by the light of day.
